George Bao

 

George Bao is among the first group of journalists in China to be trained by American professors to write news stories in English after China opened its door in late 1970s. He is also one of the few Chinese journalists to be sent to the U.S. to cover news events for China. He has played an important role in helping the Chinese to know the U.S. better by his reports which were carried in major Chinese newspapers. In his 16 years as a journalist for the U.S. based Chinese newspaper World Journal, he has a chance to know the U.S. society better. He is among the few journalists from China who know both countries better.

 

George Bao has been a journalist for about 30 years. He graduated from the Graduate School of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences in 1981 in Beijing, China with a Master’s degree in journalism. Worked for the Chinese State News Agency Xinhua from 1981 to 1991, during which he spent nearly five years in Washington, DC as a foreign correspondent for Xinhua from 1984 to 1988 to cover the White House, the State Department and the U.S. Congress. He came to study at USC’s Annenberg School of Communication in 1991 and won his Master’s degree in communication in 1993. He has been working as a staff writer for the Chinese Daily News (World Journal) since January 1993 and has covered widely from community news, travel, elections, judicial news to U.S.-China-Taiwan relations. Since 1992, he had also been freelancing for the East-West News Service.

 

George Bao retired from World Journal after serving 16 years and is now a freelance journalist in the U.S.

 

He is fluent in English and Chinese and can write news stories in both languages. His background and knowledge on both countries contribute greatly to his job as an experienced journalist.

 

David DeVoss

 

David DeVoss worked as a Time Magazine correspondent and bureau chief for 16 years, nine of which were spent in Southeast Asia where he lived in Saigon, Hong Kong and Bangkok. He is one of the few American journalists to visit China in the late 1970s. From 1985 to 1997, he worked for the Los Angeles Times, Asia Times, Asia Inc, where he was the Americas Correspondent & Editor. For the past decade DeVoss has served as the founding editor and senior correspondent of the East-West News Service, which provides in-depth reports and commentaries on Asia America’s leading magazines and newspapers. He is a member of the Public Relations Society of America, the Asia Society and the Society of American Travel Writers, which has thrice awarded him for outstanding travel journalism. 

 

K.T. Leung

After graduating from the University of California cum laude, K.T. (Kitak) Leung, has started his career as an accountant and has been serving the Southern California community ever since. The firm of which he is principal, Leung Accountancy Corporation, is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the California Society of Certified Public Accountants (CSCPA). He has published numerous articles in various newspapers and media and is also authoring a book titled “US Business Taxation”, Chinese edition, to be published worldwide.

Mr. Leung is dedicated to serving the community in all aspects and is involved deeply with the community services as a current or former Member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Member of the California Society of Certified Public Accountants, President of the California Certified Public Accountants Association, Chairman of the Chinese Americans Cultural Exchange Foundation, Director and Treasurer of Hong Kong Schools Alumni Federation Scholarship Foundation, Director and Treasurer of the Hong Kong Schools Alumni Federation, Director of the Chinatown Service Center, and Treasurer of the Rotary Club of Temple City.

 

Daniel Deng

 

Daniel H. Deng is the President and CEO of Law Office of Daniel H. Deng, which has provided legal services, specializing in criminal defense, in the Chinese Community in Greater Los Angeles area since 1998. Mr. Deng is one of the best known Chinese defense attorneys in the United States.

Prior to his legal career, Mr. Deng worked as a journalist. He started his reporter career when he first worked for David Horowitz, A well-known consumer reporter, as a research intern for the “Fight Back with David Horowitz” program in Channel 4, K-NBC. Later he joined Los Angeles Times, San Gabriel Valley Edition as a community correspondent, covering events in the Chinese community for the Times.

 

After working for mainstream media for over one year, Mr. Deng changed his beat and started working as a journalist for the Chinese press in the southern California area. He first started at International Daily News. One year later, he was recruited to join Chinese Daily News (aka World Journal), the largest Chinese newspaper in Northern America. His beats included mainstream politics, Chinese-American politics, police, court, business, immigration and others.

 

While working in the daytime, Mr. Deng went to Whittier Law School at night, and finished his law school in three years. After he received his Jurist Doctor degree, he took California State Bar examination and passed it at the first attempt in 1998.


Mr. Deng is an accomplished author. He wrote "Dr. Henry Lee, the forensic Expert" in 1998, which was published in Taiwan and became one of the bestseller books in Taiwan. A similar book on Dr. Henry Lee was released in October 2000 in China. His new book “American Law 101, a Handbook for Everyone” was released on December 21, 2002, in the United States. “American Small Claim Court and DIY Guide”, and “American Traffic Law” were published in 2003, and 2004. These series of Chinese language publications have helped many immigrants to learn about American law.

Mr. Deng is fluent in Mandarin Chinese and Cantonese, and is a frequent guest on Chinese radios and televisions. 

 

Jenny Qing Chen

 

Jenny Chen started her career as a journalist when she was 16 years old. She first started to work for Guangzhou Daily in China in 1972. She earned her MA degree at the University of California, Los Angeles in 1984 and got her first job in the United States as a local Chinese newspaper reporter in New York. She was the first reporter coming from China to work in a major Chinese newspaper in the U.S. since U.S. established diplomatic relations with China in 1979. She covered the Olympic Games held in Los Angeles in 1984.

 

Jenny started to work for the Chinese Daily News, the largest Chinese newspaper in the U.S. in 1990. Since 2003 Jenny became deputy city editor and later city editor at the newspaper where she had worked for 20 years. She has covered widely in the Chinese community on issues ranging from U.S.-China relations, U.S. relations with Taiwan, education, culture, real estate, etc.

 

Jenny has witnessed the growth of the Chinese population and the Chinese community in the past 20 years and has maintained a good relationship with the Chinese community, its media, organizations and people.



Deenee Huang Wee

 

Deenee Huang Wee has over 10 years of experience in international financing by assisting developing countries to get specialized financing to help individual small to medium sized companies to get the expansion money for their business.

 

She is board of directors for several companies like Bullhead Machine Co., Inc., Cahaus, Inc., DNR Investments Ltd. And E.W. Universal Group, Ltd.

 

She was President of the Rotary International in Monterey Park and member of Board of Realtors in Los Angeles, San Marino and other cities. She was auditor of the United Nations USA Central Los Angeles Chapter.

 

She holds a B.A. degree in business administration in Taiwan and M.B.A. degree in California Institute of Finance.

 

She is fluent in English, Japanese and Chinese.

 

Rosa Zhang

 

Rosa Zhang holds an MA degree in Computer in Education at Trinity College in Washington, DC. She worked for several years for the Anhui Provincial Metallurgical Bureau and gained several years of experience in economy by working for the Economic Information section at Xinhua News Agency in Beijing.

 

Rosa Zhang has founded her own company SETL USA INC. in 1999 and has been president for the import and export company since then.

 

She is active in working for the United Nations USA Central Los Angeles Chapter and had the experience in working for the Sino-US Personnel Exchange Association.
